Search engines prefer backlinks that have been built over time as they indicate the true quality of the site that the inbound links are pointing to. It is easy for SEO companies to manipulate internal links but it is not easy to manipulate backlinks, another reason why search engines rely on them. Recently there has been an upsurge of pages which are made only for supplying links to websites. These are called link farms. These link farms should be avoided because if you use them to generate backlinks for your website, then your website might be banned by the search engines.
Lastly, what we can conclude here that, maybe that building inbound or banklinks is a hard and time consuming job, and also it may cost us a considerable amount of money, but they are the building blocks of SEO and high quality backlinks can attract more traffic than will be possible otherwise.
